It’s official, we are going to Cambodia!
At the end of October, we’ll be heading to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to partner with Greg and Jane Drebes. Greg and Jane Drebes have been living in Cambodia for over 8 years doing a variety of ministries, most of which focus on spreading the Gospel to and helping the poor of Phnom Penh. We’ll be blogging the journey every step of the way while we’re in Cambodia as long as we can find solid-enough internet to upload the blogs!
In addition to evangelism, Greg and Jane facilitate sponsorships for kids living in a dormitory they have built, provide low-cost housing for sweatshop workers, arrange Bible studies in the local communities, put on programs for children and help with vocational training. Their ministries help children through young adults stand on their own through helping with college tuition and vocational training so they can get solid jobs instead of working in the local sweatshops or, worse, becoming part of the growing Cambodian sex industry.
Brandi Jo spent a month working with the Drebeses in 2011 while on a mission trip around the world and she has stayed in contact with them ever since. Early on, when Kaleidoscope Media Ministries was still just an idea, we had decided that one day we wanted to go help the Drebes', and before we had a chance to let them know, they contacted us asking if we could help! Talk about a God thing!
While in Cambodia, we will be producing a narrative video telling the story of what Greg and Jane are doing and asking the audience what they can do to help. Whether sponsoring a child, staying in the dormitory or flying out to Phnom Penh to volunteer physically. To make the video, we will spend 6-7 days in Phnom Penh, gathering testimonies of Cambodians helped by the Drebes’ ministries, shooting the facilities the Drebes' run, shooting the people they have helped evangelizing on the streets and teaching Sunday school and many other things.
How can you help?
Prayer – We need your prayers. If praying is “all you can do” for us, then please know you’ve provided what we need the most. Pray for safe travels, pray for our stamina, pray for our creativity to flourish, pray for our emotions as we document things not usually experienced in the United States, pray for the Drebeses as they help the poor, the widows and the orphans, pray for our intestines as they’re bombarded with new foods! Whatever the subject, any prayer on our behalf is greatly appreciated!
Support – Traveling to Cambodia is not cheap. We estimate flights and lodging to run us roughly $3,600. In addition, we have about $700 of equipment to purchase as well. Hard drives for offloading and backing up the footage and photos we shoot while there, cases to transport our equipment and a travel video tripod. If you would like to support us financially, please know that ANY amount is helpful and, because we are a recognized 501(c)(3), all donations are 100% tax-deductible.
